Carrie Underwood revealed how she pulled off performances at two venues in one night.
Underwood played one of the latest shows in her Las Vegas residency, REFLECTION, on Saturday night (April 5) at Resorts World Theatre. After the show, she pulled off a quick wardrobe change — and dried her hair — “in record time,” and headed to MGM Grand Garden Arena to join iconic rockers Papa Roach as a surprise guest on stage.
The country superstar shared a video by photographer and videographer Jeff Johnson on her social media accounts on Tuesday afternoon (April 8). It opens with Underwood’s powerful REFLECTION finale performance of “Something in the Water.” She returned backstage drenched after the show, and said to the camera, “I got stuff to go do.”
“Now, I gotta go blow my hair dry, fix my face, change my clothes, get in a car, drive to the MGM, hopefully catch some of Papa Roach’s set, and I’m gonna be a Roach tonight,” Underwood said. The video shows Underwood in the car with her hair, makeup and wardrobe done. She said the “REFLECTION show just ended and it was a mad dash to the dressing room, where we dried my hair, touched up my makeup (and) changed my clothes. …Now we’re headed over from the Resorts World Theatre to the MGM Grand, where I am going to go on stage with Papa Roach.”
Underwood joined Papa Roach — made up of Jacoby Shaddix, Jerry Horton, Tobin Esperance and Tony Palermo — to perform “Leave A Light On (Talk Away The Dark),” which the artists teamed up on last year to help raise awareness for suicide prevention, mental health, and the 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline. Underwood returned to the stage to join Papa Roach on one of the band’s most iconic hits, “Last Resort.” The band previously shared a clip of the performance on Instagram. Underwood’s video she posted on Tuesday afternoon offers a few glimpses of the electrifying cross-genre moment on the Vegas stage.
“That was awesome. The crowd was awesome. Papa Roach was awesome. That was a high school dream come true, for sure,” Underwood gushed after the show. Papa Roach commented on Instagram, “thanks for coming out Carrie and ROCKING the stage with us!”
The eight-time Grammy Award winner said as she shared photos from the surprise performance over the weekend: “Still in disbelief over this one. On Saturday, after my Reflection show, we changed my clothes, dried my hair and headed over to catch the [Papa Roach] show down the street. Not only did I get to perform ‘Leave A Light On’ with them, but I got called BACK out to do ‘Last Resort,’ because, why not?! Oh, and they told me that our song went GOLD, which is amazing because it’s raising money for a great cause! These guys are the real deal. 25 years of melting faces and I know they’ve got more work to do! What a great show!”
Underwood’s residency kicked off in 2021, making her the first and longest-running resident headliner at the venue. The final dates are set for April 9, 11 and 12.
