Ronnie Dunn unexpectedly left the stage during a recent performance. The unusual exit takes place as the country star continues to battle an ongoing illness.
The Brooks & Dunn star — half of the iconic duo with Kix Brooks — walked off stage as the duo delivered an encore rendition of their early 90s anthem, “Boot Scootin’ Boogie.” Videos circulating on social media captured the moment Dunn, who said during another performance last month he was battling strep throat and COVID, stopped singing. He told the crowd, “sing it if you know it,” as he stepped away from the microphone. He appeared to signal to his guitar player that he could no longer perform. Dunn stepped closer to the edge of the stage, patted his chest and waved a farewell to the audience. The show took place on Thursday (April 3) at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, Indiana.
Dunn, 71, said in a caption on Instagram on March 19 that he “had to fight through the last two shows (the flu and strep aren’t a singer’s friend...) Crowds have been terrific and thanks to the best band and crew in the business we’ve powered through it.” He has not offered any additional health updates as of publication time on Monday (April 7).
