Lafayette deaf man hears proposal after surgery

Hayward Duresseau of Lafayette, Louisiana, lost his hearing, sight, and ability to walk after contracting undetected bacterial meningitis. He was able to regain his sight after two weeks and the ability to walk after three months, but was told that his hearing would never return.  After a successful cochlear implant surgery, his boyfriend decided a proposal would be the first thing he'd hear.

According to People.com: “It’s been kind of a long journey to get to this point. But I’m glad that we were able to do it together,” Kennedy, 37, says in a sweet video of the moment. “I want to keep doing these things with you and helping you as much as I can because I know you help me. So will you marry me?”
