The twins are here! Born at 30.1 weeks

What was a normal work week changed drastically when I realized the twins were on their way. I went into the hospital at lunchtime on Friday, March 1. I swabbed positive for pre-term labor and also found out I had a UTI on top of dilating & contracting. In a matter of 10 hours, I went from 0 cm dilated to 5 cm. At 10 am Saturday morning March 2, the doc told me the labor isn't stopping so, the twins would be coming. P.S. a load of magnesium & a shot of steroids is for the birds.

Twenty minutes of taking in a huge bag of magnesium is not fun, but I needed to do it for the twins. So, ready or not, the twins are on their way! I quickly called my doula & one of my best friends, and said "this is happening".

I had a traumatic birth with my first born, and with this labor unexpected and so early, I was nervous, and my husband was nervous too.

I was wheeled into the OR, given an epidural that worked this time (thank goodness), and the twins were born at 12:35 pm seconds behind each other. World, meet Rowan & Reeves. Both are family names, one of them being named after their wonderful late grandmother who passed away in December. She was smiling down on the twins. I wanted her to be in the room so bad when the twins were born, but she was there in spirit.

The twins were quickly taken in the room next to the OR with a team of neonatal doctors and nurses to make sure all well with them. I was wheeled in there to hold Rowan. Reeves couldn't be held just yet because he needed a little extra attention as you can see (above). Fast forward three weeks later, both boys have been breathing room air on their own for a while, starting to take bottles at feeding time, and starting to move into an open crib (hopefully soon). They are still in the NICU and will be maybe for four more weeks hence why I'm back to work in the meantime. I'm a proud mom to preemie twin boys and a wild loving 20 month old.
