Payton asks fans to cheer differently on Sunday

Saints fans know how to bring the noise in the Mercedes-Benz Superdome, and the upcoming NFC Championship game versus the Rams will be no different.

Cheering from fans during the divisional round of the playoffs against the Eagles was a positive impact for the Saints, and head coach Sean Payton is taking that into account for this weekend's game. He has even made a request from the fans.

"I think what's important for our fan base is understanding when that crowd noise needs to begin differently this week than normal weeks. That crowd noise needs to begin prior to 15 seconds left (on the play clock). That crowd needs to begin just as that last play finished. Look, you get 65-70 snaps of that crowd noise, earlier than normal and louder than normal, it's difficult."

Why change cheering habits for the Rams?

"They'll come out the huddle quickly and snap the ball. They do a good job of trying to counter that (crowd noise) with tempo, or change of tempo."
