George Strait might be known as the King of Country, but Toby Keith is earning a new royal title as well. Toby is leading "Forbes" magazine's inaugural "Country Cash Kings" list, which ranks country stars based on their earnings over the past year.
The publication is calling Keith a "cowboy capitalist," who raked in $65 million between June 1st, 2012 and June 1st of this year. He amassed his wealth in a variety of ways, including his music career as a performer, songwriter, and label executive; his I Love This Bar And Grill chain; and his other business interests.
Taylor Swift, who also has a diversified career that includes a perfume line, endorsement deals, and other income-generating ventures, comes in at number two with earnings of $55 million. Kenny Chesney is a close third with $53 million. He's earned the bulk of his wealth through album sales and touring, but is also launching his own brand of rum this year. Tim McGraw made $33 million to take the number four spot on the list, while Carrie Underwood round out the top five with earnings of $31 million.
Brad Paisley, Zac Brown Band, and Rascal Flatts are also in the top ten, along with George Strait, Jason Aldean, and Luke Bryan. "Forbes" adds that several other acts are also doing quite well financially, even though they didn't make the cut. The magazine says Lady Antebellum, Alan Jackson, Eric Church, Blake Shelton, and Keith Urban "fell just short" of the top ten this year, but that could change for the 2014 list.
